CASA logo"Theta Santas "a Success!!!

What a success this project was---thanks to all of you. Your generosity & spirit enabled us to spread love & cheer to all 150 of the children in the CASA program of SB County.

A BIG THANK YOU:
To those who donated---we collected almost $1000……….can you believe it?!

  • To those who shopped---I could not have done it all---these great bargain hunters came up with creative ideas and even asked for discounts when possible. We were able to stuff the bags to the brim with chalk, crayons, coloring books, markers, play dough, miniature cars, balls, jacks, hair ornaments, soaps, shampoos, candy canes, jewelry, pkgs. of Cornuts, small cans of Ruffles, chewing gum, candy bars, small stuffed toys-----------and more!!!!
  • To those who helped stuff bags & wrap & tie bows---these women were amazing!!! As boxes of goodies arrived, they were ripped open [we were like kids on Christmas morning] & distributed---150 bags were done in one hour!!!
  • To those who brought food & refreshments & helped decorate---everything looked so festive and tasted so good!!! After the wild pace we all needed it---a very special thanks to Dorothy Nissler for arranging the club house for us---it was the perfect location.

To those businesses who donated:

  • Sandra at Public Beauty Supply [on East Montecito St. by the turnaround, across from Trader Joe's]---wonderful shampoos, hair ornaments, soaps, nail polishes, combs---etc. If you visit her salon & store be sure to say a special thank you from Theta and CASA.
  • The Enchanted Forest---sadly is no longer in business---but they were most generous---over $300 worth of wonderful items.
  • See's Candy---75 of their delicious lollypops!!!

We all agreed to do this again next year---unfortunately there will still be children in need. But we did make a difference in their lives---if even for a day. I am sharing the messages we received from CASA & CASA volunteers that will let you see how valuable this project was.

I hope you will all be as enthusiastic next year. I plan to start in September to give us a little more time. What I need is someone to contact businesses in the community---not just for donations, but discounts on purchases as well. I think if we gave them a CASA brochure, a copy of our "Santa" letter, and a copy of the report, they might be inclined to participate. If you can help---please call me & I will provide all the necessary info---this is not my strong suit, so I really could use the help here.

If you have any ideas on how to make this better or easier or bigger---or ANY ideas---get back to me.. I am for anything to make this wonderful for the children.

Thank you all again for your support----you are the best!!!!!

"I would like to thank The KAO Alumnae for the charming gift bags you put together….my little girl very much liked the goodies…the time and effort your group put forth is really appreciates." CASA volunteer for a 5 year old.

"I know the CASA children really appreciated the bags…I heard more than one advocate gush about how excited their child was to receive their own bag" Jaime Whitmer, CASA.

"I wish you could have been there to hear the comments as my "kid" looked through the items in the bag…with a big smile all the way to the end. It is obvious that a lot of thought & effort went into this project, and I wanted you…to know it was appreciated." Betty Gehrig, CASA volunteer.

Notes from The Monthly Advocate:…SB Thetas have used creative ways to help the kids….after collecting over $900, they shopped, planned a potluck….and filled the bags with toys and…treats for all 150 CASA children. A very special thank you…for organizing this wonderful effort. Carol Palladini CASA Board President.
