President's Message
"If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live
in vain. If I can ease one life the aching, or cool one pain, or
help one fainting robin unto his nest again, I shall not live in
vain." - Emily Dickenson
On behalf of KAO alumnae of Santa Barbara, I would like to extend
my heartfelt thanks for your generous support of the 2001 "Santas
for CASA" project. We raised over $1,700.00!! Every dollar
was spent on filling the bags fro the children. Our shoppers were
busy and creative, finding fun food items, school supplies, toy
cars, books, puzzles, baby socks, stuffed toys, toiletries and even
some fabulous cosmetic samples from Saks (thank you, Vicky Howe!)
The bags were given to the children at the CASA Christmas party
and were even large enough for the toys collected by by KTYD radio
station.
We hope to continue this project in 2002 with a new twist: "Things
that CASA volunteers can share with their kids." The CASAs
are volunteers and there is no budget to give them any extra funds
fro dinners out or a movie or a zoo or museum trip. We are going
to try and help them with that. We will still toss in some little
gifts and holiday candy, but will try to add: movie pass books,
gift certificates for pizza, natural history museum or zoo passes,
ice cream coupons, an any other suggestions you may have. To do
this, I am hoping to solicit donations or discounts from businesses
and organizations that could provide us with these services. My
daughter has volunteered to help me write letters that we will mail
out in July. Anyone with any contacts, please call me! It always
helps to have a *Name* and that personal touch.
I hope your generosity will continue. I am so proud to be part
of this group of women who understand the need of bringing joy to
a child in need. The history of Theta in Santa Barbara is full of
such efforts for so many causes and I am humbled to be in your company.
Thank you again.
Details on the 2002 "Theta Santas for CASA" project will
be mailed out with the fall newsletter in late August.
Thank you so much for all you and have done for Theta.
Loving kites and pansies,
Maureen
Here's a note sent from CASA:
"On behalf of the children, advocates and staff of CASA of
Santa Barbara County, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to
you and your fellow Theta Alumni for the work you do on behalf of
CASA. The gift bags were tremendous and a wonderful treat for the
CASA kids. You can rest assured that the work you did brought a
smile to the face of an abused child."
